Ha-Neu/Berlin wins German Screenplay Award!

The German Screenplay Award is the highest-endowed and most prestigious award for screenwriters in Germany. The ceremonial event took place as part of a reception of the German Screenwriters Association at the Rhineland-Palatinate State Representation.

"With the German Screenplay Award, the Federal Government honors screenwriting as one of the most important craft foundations of filmmaking," says Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth.

With their screenplay "Ha-Neu/Berlin", Duc-Thi Bui and Duc Ngo Ngoc convinced the jury. On stage, the two authors were ceremoniously presented with the Lola statuettes, followed by a laudatory speech given by jury member Jan Braren.

"'Ha-Neu/Berlin' by Duc-Thi Bui and Duc Ngo Ngoc comes across as light and humorous, as a wonderfully life-affirming and authentic comedy. However, films, just like life, are read from the end. And there lurks an abyss that gives the narrative its painful depth and has completely won over the jury for this drama," was the jury's reasoning for the best screenplay.

They succeeded in creating a special emotional connection with their audience through the carefully crafted characters of their figures, the Minister of State for Culture praised. "I warmly congratulate Duc-Thi Bui and Duc Ngo Ngoc on this wonderful success," Roth said.
